This is especially true for kids. If someone is uncomfortable in their clothes—if they're itchy, tight, or fussy—it will absolutely show in the photos. Choose clothes that allow for natural movement, from running and jumping to sitting and snuggling.

The days of everyone in matching white shirts and jeans are behind us! Instead, choose a color palette of 3-4 complementary colors and mix them among your family members. 

If you're not sure where to start, you can't go wrong with a neutral base of grays, browns, tans, and off-whites. From there, you can introduce one accent color (like a muted blue or a rich burgundy) that everyone shares in some small way to tie the look together.

Embrace Texture and Layers

Texture adds wonderful depth and interest to your photos. Think about mixing different fabrics like knits, linen, denim, corduroy, or lace. Layers are another great tool—an oversized sweater, a cardigan, or a scarf can add dimension and character to an outfit.

Accessorize Thoughtfully

A hat, a statement necklace, or a beautiful scarf can complete an outfit. For kids, a floral crown or suspenders can add a touch of personality.

• Earthy & Warm: Think rust, mustard yellow, olive green, and warm cream. These look stunning in the golden light of sunset.
• Coastal & Cool: Soft blues, gentle grays, tan, and off-white create a serene, timeless feel, perfect for a beach setting.
• Classic Neutrals: You can never go wrong with a base of grays, browns, tans, and creams. Add one pop of color (like dusty rose or burgundy) that appears in a few different outfits to tie everything together.

A Few Things to Avoid

• Bright Neon Colors: They can create unflattering color casts on skin.
• Large Logos & Characters: They are distracting and can quickly date your photos.
• Tiny, Busy Patterns: Very small checks or thin stripes can create a strange "moiré" effect in digital photos.
• A Quick Check for Timelessness: To keep the focus on your family's connection, it's a great idea to tuck away everyday items like large sports watches and hair ties from your wrists. This small step helps ensure your final images feel truly timeless.

The Finer Details

• Timeless Over Trendy: Aim for classic pieces that won't look dated in ten years.
• Maternity: A dress that is snug up top to accentuate your beautiful belly and then flows loosely is often the most flattering and comfortable choice. Lighter colors help showcase your bump beautifully.

A Special Note for Beach Sessions

The beach is a place for adventure, and our session should feel the same.

• Embrace the Elements: Let the wind be in your hair and don't be afraid to get your feet wet. The movement and splashing are what create real, joyful moments.
• Let Kids Be Kids: After we get a few relaxed family groupings at the start, the rest of the time is for play. Let them run, dig in the sand, and explore the waves. That's where the magic is.

Relax and have fun. These photos are about capturing your family's love and connection. Your only job is to be together and enjoy this time.
