For me, photography has always been about one thing: connection.
It’s about seeing the real story unfolding in front of my lens
and capturing it in a way that feels honest and true.

My real goal during our time together is to create a relaxed,
comfortable space where your family's unique personality can shine,
so we can create something beautiful together.
Mariano Alvarez - Newport Beach Family Photographer

Hi, I'm Mariano

I’ve always been drawn to storytelling.

For years, I honed my craft as a street photographer, learning to anticipate those fleeting, unscripted moments that tell a whole story in a single frame. I bring that same patient, observant approach to my family sessions.

Instead of forcing rigid poses, I focus on creating a fun, low-pressure environment where I can capture the real stuff—the unscripted laughs, the quiet hugs, and the joyful interactions that define your connection.

My work is for families who want timeless, authentic images that truly feel like them.

My Why

It's All About Family

Above anything, I am a father and a husband. I know firsthand how quickly these chapters fly by—how a single, fleeting expression from your child can feel like the most important moment in the world.

When I’m not behind the camera for a client, I’m usually on the sidelines of a soccer field, camera in hand, trying to freeze these precious moments for my own family.

Being a father and leaving memories as legacy is what drives me to find the authentic, in-between moments for your family—the ones I know you’ll want to hold onto forever.

Beyond The Camera

It's All About Connection

  • My photography journey started at age 8, when I became the "official" family photographer with my dad's old Pentax K-1000.
  • After backpacking through Europe in college, I came home with 42 rolls of film. It took me a full year of saving up just to get them all developed.
  • Before I was a full-time photographer, I was a professional chef. I ran two of my own restaurants and cooked for everything from celebrity dinners to massive food festivals.
  • And before that, I played with different Brazilian percussion street bands, and once opened for Sarah McLachlan for three straight nights in Toronto, playing on stage for a crowd of over 10,000 people.
  • My love for cooking continues today. And although I don’t get to do it often, my perfect Sunday involves slow-cooking over an open fire with friends and family, Francis Mallmann style.
